Chamber Music

Chamber Music group classes at Arbutus Music Academy are open to all intermediate and advanced students regardless of whether they are taking private lessons at the Academy or elsewhere. Please request a placement assessment appointment prior to registration.

Chamber Music Class

OBJECTIVE:

This class is intended to provide intermediate and advanced students with an opportunity to play chamber music with their peers in a friendly and cheerful environment.

MATERIALS:

Various chamber music works of different styles for two or more stringed instruments with or without piano (handouts)

TOPICS:           

Technical Development

  • Strengthening music reading skills in real time
  • Developing a better understanding of rhythmic patterns and tempos
  • Improving intonation by listening to multiple playing parts
  • Building strong ensemble and listening skills

Deepening knowledge of music history and style

  • Discussing different periods of music history
  • Understanding differences in playing styles and articulations related to various periods of music history
  • Getting familiar with ensemble performance practices

Having fun!

Leaning to play an instrument requires great determination and lots of practice. This class gives students a chance to enjoy the fruits of their labor making music together, stay motivated and keep working on their skills.

Free Trial Lessons

A private 30-minute trial lesson for new violin, viola, cello, piano, guitar, voice and private and semi-private theory students is free of charge and may be booked through the Free trial lesson form. A fee of $40 will be charged for additional trials with other teachers.
