Hummingbirds Sing and Play Suzuki ECE Program
Arbutus Music Academy’s Hummingbird Sing and Play Suzuki ECE Music classes are open to all young children regardless of their musical experience.
The only course of its kind in the city of Vancouver, it is a mixed-age music class for children age 1 to 4 and their caregivers that is carefully designed to take the participants on a learning journey, yet feels like an exciting playtime for all. A Suzuki ECE trained teacher will guide the class through a research-based curriculum in a cheerful atmosphere that nurtures children’s natural curiosity and interest in music.
Children should be accompanied by a participating parent or caregiver. Our small class sizes of 3-5 children are the ideal environment for personalized interactions.
Children under 12 months of age can accompany their older siblings free of charge.
Classes run September through December (Fall term, 8 classes), February through March (Winter term, 8 classes), and April- early June (Spring term, 8 classes). Join anytime! Tuition is prorated for registrations received after the start of each term.

Hummingbirds Sing and Play class instructor: Katerina Lu
Katerina started playing violin and piano at the age of 7 in her native Ukraine and spent 16 years studying violin, piano, music theory and history with different teachers.
She is a passionate advocate of music education and believes that people of all ages, but especially very young children, can greatly benefit from the joy of music making. This belief led her to Suzuki ECE teacher training and resulted in our Hummingbirds Sing and Play curriculum.
Katerina’s lessons are fast-paced and designed to excite young children about music and learning new things. She likes to stir a little bit of teaching languages, literacy and math into the delicious musical “soup” at each lesson. The small group format of these classes enables her to tailor the experience to the particular needs of each group of children.
Katerina is bilingual in English and Russian, speaks some Spanish, studied Mandarin and German, and is aspiring to learn French.
